Rothko No.5/22

Mark Rothko No.5/22
My first step of looking at this painting is to separate different color patches from the painting. I then use the live trace option in Illustrator to analyze the intensity of different color patches by changing the threshold. I then transferred the images in CAD, traced them based on the sequence of images and put them into orders according to the way people perceive the painting and the order Rothko painted the painting.

My second step is to trace the parts where colors are missing using the tracings that I have before, and try to perceive them as a quality of "losing" , as this painting of Rothko is about tragic emotions. Then I used Rhino to make a 3d models of the holes based on the different layers of tracings that I have.
